DBS Requirements for Volunteers
All volunteers who work directly with children and/or vulnerable adults must have a valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate before they begin their role. This certificate must be renewed every three years.

In our Diocese, all safeguarding forms are mandatory, with the exception of the DBS Update Service form. The full DBS check is provided by the government free of charge to both volunteers and the Diocese.

We strongly encourage all volunteers to join the DBS Update Service, which simplifies the renewal process and helps ensure continued compliance with safeguarding requirements.
Which Application Route Should You Use?

Before you apply for or renew a DBS check, please read the flowchart below carefully. This will help you choose the right route depending on whether you're a new or existing volunteer, and whether you're using the online update service.

Once you’ve identified your category, click the title box at the bottom of your section to access the relevant forms and guidance.

Before contacting the Diocese regarding DBS matters, please first speak with your Parish Safeguarding Representative (PSR). Their details can usually be found on your parish notice board, or you may contact the parish office who will provide you with their contact details.
